A simple way to tell the difference between real and fake leather is by the smell and feel of the leather. Fake leather or faux leather is produced with synthetic materials that don’t feel as natural as true leather and do not give off that natural product smell. Genuine leather is one of our best sellers.
Do genuine leather patches fade?
Yes, over time, leather patches can fade, especially if they are exposed to direct sunlight or seawater. We suggest using a leather conditioner to ensure a long-lasting look.
Is genuine leather the same as real leather?
Yes, genuine leather is real leather. However, there are different grades of leather that can dictate the longevity of the patch. The Monterey Company produces faux leather patches using vegan leather as well.
What is the minimum amount I need to order for real leather patches?
The minimum order quantity for genuine leather patches is just 50. The Monterey Company does offer actual physical samples of your design as well. Just ask our customer support team.
How long do real leather patches last?
The longevity of real leather patches depends on their usage. But comfortably, at least five to seven years. Most of the time, real leather will even outlast the workwear or hats to which they are applied. Compared to faux leather or custom embroidered patches, genuine leather is superior in the test of time. If you are looking for the longest-lasting patch, we suggest rubber patches.
Can you wash genuine leather patches in the washing machine?
No, you should never machine wash genuine leather products. Exposure to that much moisture can cause warping and cracking, plus the chemicals in detergents can discolor the natural beauty and uniqueness of the leather. Dry-cleaning is suggested for genuine leather patches.
Can you iron on or heat-press genuine leather patches?
Yes, but this is a tricky process. We suggest using a heat press with backheat. High heat on the front of the patch can cause the leather to burn. Leather patches are pressure-sensitive; be sure to use medium to low pressure. For the best results, we suggest sewing your leather patches onto garments.
How long does it take to produce leather patches?
Genuine leather patches do take time to produce. Our standard production time is 10 to 15 business days. We do offer rush services if needed. Just ask our customer service support team.
